The twelfth passer-by doesn’t pass entirely by, he lingers

PB12 passes by
“Shoot! I thought he was a taker for sure.” Sofa Daniels mumbled to himself as he sat out on the curb. Hollywood block, compartment 319, was a tough market to get into, but Sofa D had been in the game a long time. Long enough to know that if you were getting numbers like the ones he was getting today, it was maybe time to get out of the game for good. Twelve passers-by, only three of which were lingerers, and not even one was a taker! A much younger Sofa D would have scoffed in the face of the person who told him that in just 15 years, out of 12 passers-by, not even one was made a taker by the sight of Sofa D’s plump cushions.
Perhaps the cushions were the problem. Sofa D used to have far firmer and plumper cushions when he was younger, not to mention that the exquisite craftmanship of his green-red mesh upholstery had become rather badly torn over time. Truly he had been the cool couch in Hollywood block, compartment 319. Fifteen years took a toll on a couch though, and so, Sofa D had fallen into that age bracket of couches that were awkwardly old for what they did but were also maybe too young to retire. Maybe. I haven’t got a clue, how long do couches last? Holding up the asses of Hollywood is taxing stuff, far more taxing than anything any normal couch would have to put up with.
After only making it 2 years with his most recent owner, Sofa D had been put out to pasture. Pasture of course being the curb-side where hopefully a stranger will want the junk you yourself no longer want. The Sofa industry is highly competitive and Sofa D had really found himself an old man in a young gun’s game. Railing against the inevitable day when his cushions would host a family of rat babies in a garbage dump, Sofa D sits out on the curb-side and tries to look pretty.
