Aquarium encounter

Recorded encounter of an interaction between two people in an Aquarium

Jimmy. Strawberry blonde hair.                             Malignoid Manderson. Hates his name.

Just under one meter tall. A child.                     Just over one meter sixty centimetres tall.

Neat green striped backpack.                           Oily black hair. Construction worker garb.

Understands that some adults                          Grumpy man, some might call him a prick.

can be pricks. Wise for his age.           Far too child-like for a 48 year old. No dependants.

“Hey, hey kid. Come over here.”

“No.”

“No? What do you mean no?”

(Goes back to watching fish)                                                      “Just get over here, don’t you

see my name badge? I work here.”

“…you don’t look like the

other people that work here. I’m not

buying it.”

“I look different because I am a construction

worker. Stop being a little twerp, we

need you to move so we can start

a job. Where are your parents?”

“That’s rude. You sound like

you’re full of shit. I hope I don’t

get such an angry job one day.                                           (Mouth hanging open in surprise)

Growing up to be a prick seems

such a waste of time.”

“How old are you? I thought you

looked seven or so but you are acting like

one of those high-powered business executives.

Are you one of those small people?”

“No, leave me alone.”

“Where are your parents?”

“This is getting irritating. They

aren’t here.”

“….”

“We seem to have reached an

impasse.”

“Sure, like you know what that

means. Listen kid, the big wheel of

industry is going to turn no matter what.

I have out-waited tree huggers and stoned

art students by the bucket load in my day.

I can wait here all week.”

“I have been living in this aquarium

for months now. You are going to

need to wait far longer if you want to rout me.”

“Ok well now I don’t buy it. No way

have you been living here, in an

aquarium, for months. Doesn’t make sense.”

“That’s how it is.”

“So your parents just dropped you

off and forgot to pick you up?

This is just-No, you know what, I have

work to do. COME OVER HERE NOW!”

“No I am waiting here until

they get back. I’ve organised it with the

staff here, you can’t move me, no matter

how many name badges you have.”

“Wait, that’s really what happened?

Well whatever. Sit there all day, see if I care.”

(Storms off)

Alfred. Works at Sea Life Aquariums.        (Happens across an Aquarium staff member)

He is very passionate about his job.

“Hello, yes. There’s a kid back there who

says his parents abandoned him her-“

“Ah I see you ran into Jimmy. Good little chap.

Helps us feed the fish. He likes to

mess with people. His parents own the facility.”

“What a little wanker.”

“Don’t get me started.”

“But you just said? Oh never mind.

I’m going on lunch, reconstituting an

aquarium should be easier than this.”
